You can be there for children at their time of need
A catastrophic flash flood has swept through Timure, Rasuwagadhi and Syabrubesi in Rasuwa in Northern Nepal, destroying homes and lives.
The death toll is rising, with thousands reported missing. Tens of thousands of families have been displaced due to massive damage to homes and infrastructure. For children, this displacement can increase the risk of family separation, exposing them to trauma, injury, exploitation, and other protection risks.
Our primary concern is for children and families’ safety and wellbeing.
We aim to support households with critical life-saving assistance, including water and sanitation. We will distribute essential non-food items, like tarpaulins, baby kits, mosquito nets, dignity and hygiene kits, blankets, kitchen utensils. As fears rise amid the risk of new flooding, we've stocked six warehouses with pre-positioned life-saving non-food items, with capacity to support up to 10,000 families during a mega-disaster.
We know from experience responding to other disasters in Nepal that a crisis like this has immediate and long-term implications for children and vulnerable households. The response cannot stop with tents and emergency supplies. Families cannot remain in temporary shelters indefinitely, and damaged homes, schools, water systems and livelihoods will need to be restored.
While our immediate, lifesaving response is underway, the full impact of the disaster will take time to become clear. We know that families and children have been impacted on a massive scale, and that recovery will not be immediate. Children need sustained support.
