Nepal Flood Crisis: Help Children and Families Recover

Children and families need our help to survive and recover.

On 26 August, devastating flash floods struck Nepal, triggering a humanitarian crisis that has left families reeling. Homes, schools, health facilities, water systems and other critical infrastructure have been damaged or destroyed. Thousands of children are now facing increased risks of illness, malnutrition, psychological distress, disrupted learning and separation from their families.

UNICEF is already on the ground supporting affected communities with lifesaving assistance, including emergency health and nutrition supplies, safe water and hygiene items, temporary learning spaces, psychosocial support, child protection services and urgent cash assistance for vulnerable families.

Key updates:
• 50,000 people have been affected, including an estimated 17,000 children.
• Nearly 400 people have been killed, including children, with hundreds more still missing.
• Families urgently need access to safe water, health care, nutrition support, child protection services and education.
• Damage to homes, schools and essential infrastructure is making recovery even more challenging for children and their families.
• UNICEF is already responding with emergency supplies and support, but more funding is needed to reach children and families as quickly as possible.
