Sudan is facing one of the world’s most severe and underreported humanitarian crises.
Now in its third year, brutal conflict has shattered communities, forcing 11.35 million people, over half of them children, from their homes. Sudan’s children are enduring unimaginable hardship: violence, trauma, sexual abuse, disease outbreaks, and a desperate lack of lifesaving nutrition, clean water, healthcare and education. In displacement camps like Zamzam, famine has taken hold with children and their families cut off from lifesaving humanitarian aid.
Yet, despite the enormity of the crisis, critical programs in Sudan remain remains critically underfunded.
Sudan’s crisis in numbers
24M people are facing acute food insecurity.
16.5M children are out of school.
15M children in need of humanitarian assistance.
5M children have been forced to flee their homes.
UNICEF is always there, no matter what.
We’re working alongside our local and international partners to deliver emergency humanitarian aid to children and their families, both in Sudan and in refugee-hosting countries, such as Chad, Ethiopia and Egypt, including:
- Lifesaving nutrition for malnourished children
- Access to clean water and sanitation
- Vaccinations and medical supplies
- Child protection and trauma counselling
- Education and learning kits for displaced children
- Maternal and newborn healthcare
